Background

The idea for founding Popack Logistik GmbH originated in the 1990s. Andreas Popall was at the time managing director of a logistics company in the Rhine-Main region and identified strong demand for customer-specific packaging services. On 16 April 1999, Popack Logistik GmbH was officially registered in the commercial register. Initially, two employees worked on 20 square metres of production space, relabeling products.

Just one year after its founding, the production area at the then location in Mainz-Hechtsheim was expanded; assembly of advertising displays and assembly packaging were added. In the following years, assembly and packaging work was carried out in both deep-freeze and hazardous goods sectors. In 2004, the company relocated its headquarters to Mainz-Marienborn. Popack began pharmaceutical assembly and packaging operations under Section 13 of the German Medicines Act (AMG) and set up a manufacturing room compliant with GMP guidelines. After a construction period of 14 months and an investment of five million euros, a new logistics hall of approximately 3,500 square metres with a mobile racking system was commissioned in late September 2015, providing 9,000 additional pallet positions. In total, the company now has more than 20,000 pallet positions.

Popack Logistik GmbH pursues sustainable business practices. These include energy-efficient LED lighting in warehouse facilities, modern heat pumps for climate control (since 2015), systematic waste avoidance and separation, the use of recyclable and climate-neutral packaging, and green roof installations. The company has maintained a nearly stable workforce since 1999 and cultivates long-term relationships with suppliers.

Popack Logistik GmbH has been training apprentices since its founding, in professions including freight forwarding and logistics services, office management, and warehouse logistics. In November 2012, the company was awarded a distinction for “Exemplary Commitment to Vocational Training” by the Rheinhessen Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK).
